Residents FAQ
Your Questions, Answered
Find answers to your most pressing questions about Earth X EV charging solutions for residents.
1. What is the Earth X - Glenwood Pilot?
+
Earth X is a new EV charging solution focused solely on providing EV charging for multifamily communities. Our goal is to create an easy-to-use, ultra-reliable charging platform that allows residents to charge overnight. No car shuffling, cable management nightmares or loitering penalties that are common with other shared EV charging platforms.
We think every EV owner should be able to charge their cars overnight AT HOME regardless of where they live!
We are conducting a test of our new system at 915 Glenwood. Each residents pays per kWh used on an ongoing basis. A deposit is required for the Charge Cable, and a credit card must be on file for billing of kWh usage.
NOTE:
Some production features of the Earth X Charger and Earth X App are not ready to be tested at this time.
The Earth X App is in Beta and is not required to start or stop your charge session. However, it is required for your initial account setup and agreement with our terms and conditions.

2. How do I use the Earth X charging network?
+
Glad you asked! Earth X uses a concept called Bring Your Own Cable (widely used across Europe) to minimize charger outages and deliver high reliability.
When you sign up with Earth X, we ship you an Earth X Charge Cable that is registered to your account and allows you to park, plug, and charge. No need to take out your wallet or phone.
You should maintain possession of your Earth X Charge Cable as it's assigned to your account. Just keep it in your car's trunk/frunk when not in use.
To charge your car:
Take the cover off the J1772 end (round end) of the cable and plug it into your car,
Take the cover off the Type 2 end (squared at the bottom with the # written on top) and plug that into the charger,
Tap the silicone cover of the Type 2 end on the “Tap Here” symbol on the charger and hold there until you hear a beep and see a white spinning light. That will start the charge session.
You can later manage and monitor your charge session from the Earth X app if you like.
To stop your charge simply unplug both ends of the cable and stow the cable in your car. And off you go!
Session lights:
Blue - the port is available to use.
White - you will see a white spinning light while authenticating the session to your account (again no charges are being incurred).
Green - once authenticated you will see a breathing green ring that will then immediately change to a spinning green light to indicate that it's charging.
Red - if authentication fails it will show a red circle.

3. Are Earth X chargers compatible with all types of EVs?
+
Yes! For the Glenwood Pilot we're offering J1772 cables which is a standard Level 2 charging connector that works with most vehicles.
Tesla drivers will need to use the Tesla supplied NACS adapter. (Note: Earth X plans to offer NACS charge cables in the future, but they are unfortunately not available for the Glenwood Pilot.)

4. How fast can I charge my car?
+
Our chargers are designed for overnight charging and are Level 2 chargers that deliver about 25 miles of range per hour. This is sufficient to recharge most cars from 20% to 80+% state of charge overnight.
Earth X chargers are designed for load balancing making it less expensive for properties to install EV charging - meaning they can install more chargers and keep up with resident demand.
When one or two cars are charging at an Earth X station both will charge at approx 25 miles per hour. However, when three cars are charging a the same time the charger load balancing system means the charge rates will be reduced to 15 miles per hour until one car finishes charging. When one car finishes charging, the other two cars will return to 25 miles per hour.

+
The Earth X Glenwood Pilot program offers residents charging at $0.29 kWh, which is set by Property Management for the duration of the Pilot.
